Continued. Early postnatal period
At the end of the second trimester, teething of the first milk teeth begins. There is a change in nutrition and function of the chewing organ.
When the transition to the vertical position of the body occurs, the reflexes change, the child, in addition to the vowels, begins to master other sounds. The child masters the labial consonants, although vowels predominate in speech.
The third and fourth trimesters are characterized by the development of movement and the transition to a predominantly vertical position of the body. Attempts to sit down and get up become more intense. In the future, there is a transition to upright walking, which is associated with the continuous struggle with gravity. From uncoordinated movements, the child moves to crawling and sitting. At the end of this period, the child begins to get up and walk. (The time when the child can get up – 6 month of life.)
At the same time, an extensive functional modification of the masticatory organ occurs. The development of speech, the transition to chewing, the use of the cervical spine as a head support, coordination of the neck and shoulder girdle, the development of an independent head rotation mechanism for sensory perception of information by the senses – all this happens in this period.
The pronounced reorganization of the base of the skull and the temporal bone for the onset of “free movement” as in the true biped, is a miracle of ontogenesis. First of all, it concerns the relationship of rotation and counter-rotation. Up to this point, young primates and human children evolve in a similar way, after which development takes place in different ways.
The transition to the proper bipedal movement is extremely important for the development of the masticatory organ. From this point on, the independent position of the head is controlled by several factors: the balance organ, eyesight, and the proprioceptive system of the head and neck. Tilscher considered the atlantocipital joint to be a coordination body. From this point of view, the connection between the masticatory organ and posture disorders becomes more obvious.
The child should be closely monitored, since this period is ideal for correcting developmental disorders and creating good posture. Well-informed parents can provide significant assistance to the doctor in this task.
